A Contemporary Outdoor Transformation

Modern landscaping that complements the clean lines and minimalism of a custom home.

The Rossendale Project is a comprehensive landscape installation for a newly built modern home by Concord Homes, located in the west end of Kingston. With a completely untouched lot at the outset, the design focused on creating clean lines, balanced geometry, and understated functionality to match the home's contemporary architecture. The hardscape features Techno Bloc’s Ocean Grande in a unique basket weave pattern, bordered with a Valley double border, offering a subtle but distinctive texture throughout the patio and pathways. Strategic elements like wraparound steps with integrated lighting and raised planters were introduced not only for function but to complement the visual rhythm of the structure without overwhelming it.

To bring softness and depth to the property, we incorporated informal planting berms along the fence line to provide privacy and a more natural contrast to the sharp architectural features. The backyard, initially flat and open, was reimagined with multiple levels using double-sided retaining walls, creating dimension and purpose within the space. A built-in BBQ station, ambient lighting, and multiple outdoor living zones make the space both livable and visually cohesive. Overall, the landscape serves as an elegant extension of the home—modern, practical, and thoughtfully restrained.
